Uniden R8w Extreme Long Range Radar/Laser Detector

The Uniden R8w is Uniden's replacement for the discontinued R8. Same extreme long-range platform, now with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth built in, so updates and settings changes don't mean pulling it off the glass and hooking it to a computer. It watches front, sides and rear, and the arrows on the display show you where the signal is coming from.

Why we like it

• Long range: dual Blackfin DSPs and dual LNA front-ends for earlier, faster radar pickup. Covers X, K, Ka and laser.
• 360° directional arrows: you know if the threat is ahead or behind, not just that it's out there.
• GPS on board: red-light and speed camera alerts from Uniden's database, and you can tag your own hot spots.
• Wi-Fi updates: firmware and the camera database update wirelessly.
• R/TACH app: Bluetooth link to your phone for settings, band tones and sensitivity.
• Simple install: snap on the mount, plug into 12V, set it on the windshield. No wiring, no tools.
